ENOUGH
IS ENOUGH
My
friend Dr. Steve Harmon posted a piece on Facebook that caught my attention and
caused me to reflect on the frequency at which our young people are being
gunned down in their schools in the United States.
Human
and systemic evil cannot be eradicated completely in this fallen and broken
world. My concern however, is that why can’t both political parties—Republicans
and Democrats in Congress put partisan politics aside, come together in
agreement and implement laws that will ban these assault and deadly weapons of
mass destruction?
Years
ago, the school campus was the serene and safe place every person wanted to be.
However, today the school campus of the United States has become a dreadful
place for our children. I recall in 1998, I preached revival in a church in New
York City. On the Wednesday evening service, I asked the young people of the
host church, how can I pray for you? In unison the young people asked me to
pray for their safety at the school campus.
The
President and Congress of the United States should address this problem once
and for all. We are losing too many of our young people. What happened in
Parkland, Florida should be the last call that wakes up a sleeping nation. In
the scheme of things we expect our children to give us a fitting burial as
parents when we breathe our last. However, due to gun violence, we are burying our
children before their natural death. This should not be the case. God will hold
us accountable for allowing this menace to continue unabated. The time is now
to do something once and for all. Thank you.
