"But Simon's wife's mother lay sick with a fever, and they told Him about her at once. So He came and took her by the hand and lifted her up, and immediately the fever left her. And she served them" (Mark 1:30-31).
Very fascinating is this little peek or glimpse into the house of Peter where his mother-in-law lay sick. This reveals to you and me that Peter had a wife. We see also at once that household joys and cares are no hindrance to Christ's ministry, since they give opportunity to witness the Lord's personal work upon one's flesh and blood. They may even instruct the teacher than any other earthly discipline.
Are you a true and dedicated disciple of Jesus Christ? If you are then, Jesus is concerned about anything that bothers you. He is concerned about anything that preoccupies your mind and thoughts. Perhaps Peter's house was a fisherman's hut but Jesus went in. Jesus often would go to a poor man's house than to go to rich palaces. Jesus went to Peter's house and wrought a miracle there. When you become a dedicated follower of Jesus, He takes delight in every aspect of your life, including the welfare of your family.
If this passage of Scripture is read in a village, the household should realize that they are in good company of the King of kings. God is looking into your house right now. He wants to be gracious to you. He wants to see your need and what He can do to help meet your need. Jesus Christ is the Great Physician who heals all your diseases. He does not refer His patients to experts, because He is the expert Physician. With Him you do not need to seek a second opinion, because He is the Alpha and Omega in everything, including healing. Whatever sickness that plagues your house, tell it to Him and He will come to heal it. It is His pleasure to heal you and restore your health so that you can serve Him. Jesus cares not only for your spiritual health. He also cares for your physical well-being. Therefore, it is His delight to meet both the physical and spiritual needs of His people.
Peter had forsaken his fishing enterprise and dedicated his life to the service of His Master, who has called Him to be His disciple. Therefore, in this episode the Lord proved His faithfulness by healing Peter's mother-in-law.
Jesus knows your needs. He knows what keeps you awake in the middle of the night. He knows the economic burden that you are carrying. He knows the rent and the mortgage that have become your headache. He knows the troubles in which you find yourself, and He is ready to intervene. Do not take any dreadful and detrimental decision. The only thing you need to do is to call upon Him and He will come to your aid.
