Getting our hands dirty is what the Christian life is
all about. If our Lord Jesus could leave the portals of glory in heaven, the
praise of the angels, and the presence of the Father to come down on earth to
die on the cross to save us, who are we to refuse to get our hands dirty? The
Christian life which involves evangelism is a messy and dirty work. Therefore,
if one does not want to get his/her hands dirty then one cannot be a follower
of Christ. Our world today is in trouble because many Christians do not want to
get their hands dirty. That is sad. Many churches are also dying because the
members do not want to get their hands dirty.
John 13
where Jesus washed the feet of the disciples is a dramatic teaching of service
and humility. The washing of the feet in Jesus day was the work of the lower
house servant. Therefore, it is not beneath our nobility to serve others or
humble ourselves. Humility is a great quality in the kingdom of God. It is the
antithesis of the American way of life where everyone wants to be the number
one in life.
